George Yeo is Nalanda Varsity Chancellor
Former Singapore Foreign Minister George Yeo has been named the new Chancellor of Nalanda Universit. He was till now on the governing board of the prestigious Nalanda University in Bihar. He will replace Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, who withdrew his candidature for a second term as Chancellor of the University February 2015. Yeo was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2012 in recognition of his contribution in the field of public affairs.
Maharashtra Govt Launched Swachhata Saptapadi Scheme
Maharashtra Government has launched Swachhata Saptapadi scheme on the lines of Union Government’s flagship Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The scheme was launched by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis along with actor Aamir Khan who is brand ambassador of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in Mumbai. The term saptapadi means vows taken during marriage by bride and groom in Maharashtra.
Finance Minister Inaugurated New Bank Note Paper Line Unit In Hoshangabad
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley inaugurated the New Bank Note Paper Line unit of 6000 metric ton capacity at Security Paper Mill in Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh. With opening of this, India will become self-reliant in producing Bank Note Paper for big denominations. Earlier, India was considerably dependent on import of bank note paper for currency of big denominations.
Gurpreet Singh Qualified For 2016 Rio Olympics
Former Commonwealth Games gold medallist Gurpreet Singh on 31 May became India’s fifth shooter to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games finishing fourth in the 10m Air Pistol category at the ISSF World Cup Rifle/ Pistol in Munich. The other Indians to have earned India the earlier four quota places are Jitu Rai, Olympic bronze medallist Gagan Narang, Apurvi Chandela and India’s only individual Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra.
